Gobong Samgyetang is a restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul, that specializes in rich, herbal ginseng chicken soup made with fresh Korean ingredients.
Popular among locals and even featured on TV shows, it’s a go-to spot for hearty, traditional comfort food.
Location
This restaurant is a 10-minute walk from Saetgang Station located in Yeouido, where Line 9 and the Sillim Line stop.
It’s also just a 10-minute walk from the Yeouido Hangang Riverside Park, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal before or after a relaxing riverside stroll.
Side dish
The side dishes at Gobong Samgyetang are simple but perfect—two types of kimchi: napa cabbage and radish.
Both pair wonderfully with the rich flavors of the samgyetang.
You’ll also be offered a small glass of ginseng liquor before your meal. It has a strong, slightly bitter taste from the ginseng, but it’s known for its health benefits—definitely worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous.
Samgyetang
I ordered the herbal samgyetang, and even the broth looked healthy from the start—it was rich, flavorful, and deeply comforting.
The chicken itself wasn’t small, and the meat was tender and juicy.
Inside the chicken, there was a warm serving of rice.
After finishing the meat, I mixed the rice into the broth, and it turned into a truly hearty, satisfying meal. Yes—I emptied the bowl.

If you’re looking to try a traditional Korean dish that’s both delicious and good for your health, I highly recommend visiting this place for samgyetang—ginseng chicken soup made with medicinal herbs.
During the hot summer season, especially on Sambok (the three hottest days of the year in Korea based on the lunar calendar), many locals line up to eat this dish to restore energy and beat the heat—so keep that in mind when planning your visit.
