Seoglungtang

Grilled Naengdong Samgyeopsal (frozen pork belly) with sauce restaurant located Yeouido

Seogeulleongtang is a restaurant in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, that grills marinated naengdong samgyeopsal (frozen pork belly).

Location

This restaurant is a 10-minute walk from Saetgang Station located in Yeouido, where Line 9 and the Sillim Line stop.

It is also a 10-minute walk from The Hyundai Seoul and IFC Mall, so keep this in mind when planning your trip.

Side dish

The side dishes at this restaurant, which include lettuce for wrapping, are the standard accompaniments for Korean-style barbecue.

What makes this place special is its soup, known as Seonji-guk. This soup contains seonji, a coagulated blood ingredient made from cow’s blood.

With its rich and spicy broth, this soup pairs perfectly with the fatty pork belly, balancing out its greasiness.

Naengdong Samgyeopsal(Frozen pork belly)

This place grills meat over high-heat yeoltan (charcoal briquettes).
A traditional method used by old Korean barbecue restaurants, often referred to as nopo (long-established eateries).
Most classic meat restaurants in the past used this type of charcoal for grilling.

The signature dish at this restaurant is naengdong samgyeopsal—thinly sliced pork belly that has been frozen for easy cutting.

Since the meat is frozen, it stays firm rather than becoming soft, and its thin slices cook quickly on the grill. That’s why it’s my favorite kind of meat!

What makes this place special is that their naengdong samgyeopsal is dipped in their signature sauce before being grilled.

Since the meat is thin, coated in sauce, and grilled over high heat, you need to flip it quickly to avoid burning.

Once it turns golden brown, it’s ready to eat!

You can wrap it in lettuce or enjoy it with pa-jeori (seasoned green onions).
The sweet flavor of the sauce pairs perfectly with the spicy kick of the pa-jeori, creating a delicious balance.

A traditional old-school Korean-style naengdong samgyeopsal barbecue restaurant.

Naengdong samgyeopsal (frozen pork belly) is a popular dish among Koreans.

Since Seogeulleongtang sounds similar to Seolleongtang (a different Korean dish), make sure you’re coming for Seogeulleongtang’s naengdong samgyeopsal before you visit.

Seonji-guk (blood curd stew) and cola are unlimited and free. You can help yourself to the cola.
